Company Synopsis
Energy Storage Safety Products International (ESSPI) is a Detroit-based leader in lithium-ion battery safety, pioneering smart containment systems to address the growing threat of lithium-ion battery incidents. Our flagship solution, the Battery Logistics Integrated Safety System (BLISS), buys time for response to thermal runaway events through proprietary early-detection technology integrated into hardware containment units. Early detection offers users the ability to respond quickly to a thermal runaway event, limiting propagation, and ultimately limiting damage.
ESSPI serves clients across automotive, aerospace, maritime and multi-modal logistics sectors with proven solutions that ensure battery safety throughout the product life cycle. The company’s work is nationally recognized and backed by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) through multi-phase SBIR funding, including the first-ever Phase 2 and Phase 2b awards issued by PHMSA’s Hazmat Safety office.
To advance workforce readiness and first responder safety, ESSPI has also collaborated with key players including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to develop specialized training programs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Response Procedures (ERP). These initiatives underscore ESSPI’s commitment to combining technical innovation with civic impact, ensuring safer pathways for electrification at scale.
