The 6K Energy division is focused on the production of low-cost, sustainable, and domestically produced battery material accelerating the pace of battery production and adoption of electric vehicles.
6K has developed and manufactured the UniMelt® microwave plasma platform, a proprietary production technology that makes advanced materials for energy storage. A key attribute to the technology is its ability to produce materials sustainably versus existing methods that are inherently very environmentally unfriendly.
6K opened the Battery Center of Excellence in North Andover, MA focused on the development of sustainable battery materials for EVs, grid storage and consumer goods. Earlier this year, 6K Energy announced the PlusCAM factory, a full-scale battery material manufacturing plant, scheduled to open in late 2024 with 13K metric tons per annum (tpa) production capacity. The PlusCAM factory will be the world’s first UniMelt® plasma cathode plant providing low-cost, ultra-sustainable production of battery material for localized supply chains in the US. In addition, the company announced a $50M Department of Energy grant opportunity that will partially fund the $200+ million PlusCAM factory.
